Bensenville Park District to host free golf, swim and fitness events for veterans

Bensenville, Ill. (June 4, 2024)—As part of a comprehensive initiative offering veterans additional opportunities to stay active utilizing park district facilities and services, the Bensenville Park District has added three new events for veterans in summer 2024—a June 24 golf outing at White Pines Golf Club, 500 W. Jefferson, and a free swim day at the Bensenville Water Park, 1100 W. Wood Street, on July 4. The events conclude with a free Healthy Minds Healthy Bodies (HMHB) Aqua Zumba and picnic event at the water park on Saturday, August 3.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 24, veterans will enjoy a golf outing and luncheon at White Pines. The event includes nine holes of golf and a lunch buffet at 37 Bar & Grill from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., as well as access to the driving range and putting course for those not wishing to golf. A short game clinic will also take place at noon. The event is free for veterans residing within park district boundaries and $28 for their guests. Proof of residency and military service may be required. Space is limited. Early registration is available for those living within park district boundaries; those living outside of the park district boundaries may register beginning June 15. Call the Pro Shop at 630-766-0304 to register for the event.

Veterans will also be treated to a free day at the Bensenville Water Park & Splash Pad from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 4. Veterans will receive free admission to the water park that day. Proof of military service may be required. Veterans are also invited to join the park district in marching in the Bensenville LibertyFest Parade at 10 a.m. that day. Sign up in advance at BvilleParks.org/LibertyFest.

Veterans are invited to join in the Wood Street Fitness Aqua Zumba class at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 3, followed by a HMHB picnic, offering the camaraderie of other veterans and service members in the HMHB community at the Bensenville Water Park & Splash Pad.  Register for the picnic in advance through NEDSRA at NEDSRA.org.

HMHB is a trademarked program of AllenForce—implemented by licensed fitness centers like Wood St. Fitness throughout the country—that is offered free of charge to qualified veterans. Each facility and fitness professional complete specific training on veteran culture, PTSD, MST, injuries and illness specific to veterans and adaptive equipment.

In addition to the summer veterans’ events, White Pines hosts the annual Veterans Day Breakfast at 9 a.m. November 11, in partnership with the Village of Bensenville and Fenton High School. Each year, the breakfast features a keynote speaker as well as recognizes the contributions of the military community. The event also recognizes the winners of Fenton’s “Defending Freedom” essay contest and features performances by Fenton musicians.
