Job fair scheduled for Saturday, January 6
Bensenville, Ill. (December 29, 2023) — According to a December 27 Fast Company article, “5 hiring trends that can change your job search in 2024,” the next year may be a more candidate-friendly job market in terms of number of positions available, qualifications required and, in the case of the Bensenville Park District, compensation.
The article projects three national hiring trends for 2024, according to hiring experts from LaSalle Network, Scoutr and SHL:
- Companies are hiring again;
- Turnover is slowing; and
- Employers are focusing on skills.
The Bensenville Park District, in line with these projections, is now hiring for full- and part-time permanent and seasonal positions, and will host a job fair from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, January 6, in the Oak Room of the Deer Grove Leisure Center (DGLC), 1000 W. Wood Street, Bensenville.
“The start of the year is a great time to explore what type of job opportunities are available,” says Superintendent of Finance and Human Resources Evelyn Struck. “The Bensenville Park District is working hard to re-hire quality employees from last season in addition to attracting new workers.”
The district is raising wages in summer 2024, focused on retaining the excellent staff members in the areas of maintenance and farm workers, camp counselors, lifeguards and water park staff. Work at the DGLC, White Pines Golf Club, Fischer Farm, Bensenville Water Park and more. That work is increasingly difficult amidst a national lifeguard shortage, but park district staff says they are up for the challenge.
“Joining the Bensenville Park District isn’t just about a job—it’s a gateway to fostering vibrant communities, nurturing health and wellness and driving economic growth,” says Nicole Chesak, who recently joined the Bensenville Park District staff and is overseeing the operation of the Bensenville Water Park and Splash Pad. “Our commitment extends beyond parks; it’s about shaping futures. Through skill-building programs and interview readiness training, we’re empowering individuals, helping build resumes and cultivating leaders.”
A recent article from Zippia.com listed top skills listed in recreation management positions, identifying front desk (communication, customer service, organization) skills as tops among leaders in the field, along with CPR, mowing, lifeguard, recreational facilities, general maintenance, youth programs and community events. The Bensenville Park District offers a variety of positions to help advance careers, and those interested in working at the district can attend the January 6 job fair and also explore and apply for jobs online at BvilleParks.org/joinourteam.
Chesak adds, “Working here isn’t just a job; it’s an opportunity to make a lasting impact, strengthening both yourself and the community you serve.”
